What is Integrative, Embodied Psychotherapy

Principles for Effective Integrative/Holistic psychotherapy:

To Support Connection on all levels;

1. To Self

2. To Other (family, tribe, community, culture)

3. To One’s Purpose

4. To the Land/Mother Earth

5. To Ancestors

6. To Spirit

What to Expect:

Integrative Psychotherapy embraces a perspective towards the practice of psychotherapy that affirms both the inherent value and the innate wisdom of individual human beings. It is an inclusive and comprehensive psychotherapy that acknowledges and effectively supports the person at the affective/emotional, behavioral, cultural, cognitive, somatic, and physiological levels of functioning, including the spiritual dimension of life.

Integrative therapy also amalgamates varying therapeutic/healing tools, perspectives and approaches which suit the needs of the individual client. There is an intrinsic understanding of the fact there are divergent definitions of what it means to be human, including human development, and the impact of trauma both from a developmental and intergenerational frame of reference.

The aim of integrative/holistic psychotherapy is to facilitate self-efficacy and empowerment in a person’s ongoing development toward wholeness which the client ultimately learns is a lifetime commitment. This is understood because it is a process to which therapists also commits themselves to accomplish. Consequently, the integrative psychotherapist would never presume they hold the expertise over the client’s life and choices. They acknowledge that it is through learnt skills and their own healing experiences that help create a safe enough container through which the client can unfold and learn about their own innate inner wisdom and proficiency.
